Board of Education Appreciation
It has become a well loved tradition to invite students from across the district to the board’s October meeting to thank our board trustees with music, treats, and a learning activity. This year was no exception!
CES Music Teacher Dan Enoch and The Columbus Troubadours kicked off the evening by singing “The National Anthem.” Next, Westlake Middle School Baker's Club, who meet once a month on Mondays and bake together, prepared a selection of treats for the board and others in attendance. The treats included chocolate chip cookies made with milk and dark chocolate. Sixth grader Tyler said, “What makes them soft is a secret ingredient, we are sworn to secrecy!” The second treat was a Napoleon berry bite made of berries, cream, and mint. The final treat was apple spice muffins prepared with honey crisp apples “freshly picked from Acme. We hope they remind you of being at an orchard!” Thank you to club advisor Adam Yaeger and bakers Lily, Ella, Gwen, Giada, and Tyler.
Finally, District Math Specialist Anna Nazaruk shared details about our Guided Math Classroom approach where the student drives much of the learning and are active participants in each part of the lesson. Ms. Nazaruk coordinated eight stations for students from various grade levels to play math games. Students explained the rules and then played the games with the Board Members, members of the administrative team, and principals that they usually play with their peers each day. Thank you Stella, Maddox, Nicky, and Valentina, Julia, Niam, Sadie, Amaris, Elle, Leo, Ella, Brian, Elizabeth, Timmy, Richie, and Gjia.
