Kimber the therapy dog visits Columbus

Students in Loredana Coughlan and Tracey Armisto’s 4th grade class at Columbus welcomed a new student today: Kimber the therapy dog!

Kimber endured months of training and passing tests and practiced being at school during the summer. Today was her first day with students.

She started the day in a smaller classroom setting and them moved into the larger classrooms. After a brief discussion about what not to do (“Don’t let her lick your face!”and what snacks are bad for dogs (“Don’t bring snacks with grapes or raisins, they’re poisonous for dogs!”), the class talked about how to integrate Kimber into their daily routine. We predict there will be lots of reading to and petting Kimber and she’s even got her own desk…sort of.

We were delighted to snap a first class picture to commemorate the day.

Welcome to 4th grade Kimber! It’s going to be a great year. And thank you Mount Pleasant Education Foundation for funding this special project for our students!
