Amazing things are happening in Mrs. Suraci’s 4th grade classroom! Our students finished a read-aloud and settled into their favorite spots around the room for some “Stop and Jot” time and to confer with their teacher.

Under the blazing June sun, families gathered on the Columbus Elementary grounds for the annual fifth grade moving up ceremony. The heat was brutal—parents squinted and sought shade while teachers fanned themselves with programs. Principal Michael Cunzio welcomed everyone before Student Council President Peyton led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Mount Pleasant Central School District is pleased to announce that Mr. Kevin Hanlon has been selected as the next Principal of Columbus Elementary School. The appointment will be formally recommended at the May 14th Board of Education meeting, with Mr. Hanlon set to assume his new role on July 1, 2025.

Students and their families enjoyed turkey and all the fixings in the cafeteria with their teachers.

For the 9th time, local veterans were honored by Columbus Elementary School’s Take a Vet to School Day. The History Channel created this initiative, and this year over 50 veterans had the opportunity to meet with students and teach them about the true significance of the day.

The Tradition of Concert Cover Contests Continues

This year’s Superintendent for the Day, Brooke, had a jam packed schedule with Dr. G.

Thanks to the amazing Elementary PTA Yearbook Committee, the Fifth Grade Yearbook Breakfast was an event to remember!

The student council at Columbus identified a problem and together with advisors, Christine Galbo and Maureen Valvano came up with not only a solution but a schoolwide awareness raising Campaign.

In anticipation of Veterans Day, across the district, classes have been discussing what it means to be a veteran. 

For the first day of the highly anticipated annual treat: Columbus Discovery Days, CES teacher Tracey Armisto along with the third grade team organized an awesome author visit!
