On March 7th, the 4th grade band students had an opportunity to show off their musical talents to proud parents and admiring schoolmates. More than 70 students, led by music teachers Michael Hood and Barbara Schultz, gathered in the Columbus Elementary School gymnasium to play a 40 minute show. Each instrument group performed several songs individually to give the 3rd graders in the audience an idea of the different sounds each instrument makes. The instruments represented were the flute, the clarinet, the saxophone, the trumpet, the trombone and the baritone. The most popular instrument for this year's 4th graders is the trumpet. The 3rd graders were reminded that they will have the chance to choose their instrument at the end of the year and were encouraged to listen carefully to which ones appealed most to them. At the end of the demonstration, the entire band played together. After many months of lessons and practice, the cohesive sounds of the entire 4th grade band were music to the ears!
