School hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
Dropping Off, Picking Up and Parking
If you drive your child to school in the morning before buses arrive, please be mindful of the traffic. Stay close to the curb on the right side so that staff can continue up the driveway to the parking lot. If your child is late in the morning, please sign the registry at the front desk.
Parking, stopping or standing, except in designated parking areas is prohibited for safety and logistical reasons. After school, or whenever you pick up children by car, please park away from the bus area. (Please note: driveway will be closed at designated times). At no time should students be dropped off on Columbus Avenue.
Parents must come to the lobby and sign out their child to be released from school. You are asked to sign so that the school can maintain an accurate record of where your child went and with whom. Children are not permitted to go out to the bus area if parents are waiting for them. Parents can wait for their children in the school lobby.
If you have not sent a note to school, but arrive prior to dismissal time, your child can be called from class. Please try to avoid coming for your child earlier than the regular dismissal time, since your child will miss valuable instruction.
Students must have written permission to attend any after school program. If your child does not have a note/e-mail, he/ she will be put on his/her regular bus to go home at the end of the school day.
YOUR CHILD IS TARDY
Repeated lateness to school interrupts your child’s educational progress, as it is in his/her best interest to be an active participant in all educational activities. Your support and cooperation in developing a routine that ensures your child’s prompt arrival at school are appreciated.
If your child should arrive at school late, please have him or her report to the front desk in the lobby to sign in.
YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT
Parents are responsible under the School Attendance Laws of New York State for their child’s regular and punctual school attendance. Illness of the child, emergency illness, death in the immediate family, or religious observations are the only legal reasons for absence from school.
A written excuse is required by New York State Law each time a child is absent or late. The note should be sent with the child when he or she returns to school or on the day the child is tardy. The note submitted should include the reason for the absence or lateness, the dates and the signature of a parent or guardian.
Parents are requested to call or email the school nurse on each day of your child’s absence. If a child is absent and no call is made, the school will attempt to contact the parent. This is done for the safety and protection of your child. If a child is absent for more than two days, class assignments can be requested by the parent.
